Loft it Up!

Our clients live in a beautiful home nestled in a valley on the central coast with their horses just behind their house. They wanted a structure that would afford them a view of their pool, their horses and their grandkids as they enjoy the yard. Along with the view they wanted a loft for the grandkids inside. Well, put all of those requests together and what do you get? You get a fabulous multi use structure that anyone would want love to have on their property.

This 10' x 12' shed is a mixture of reclaimed wood with clear marine grade polyurethane and Corten metal. The roof is Corten metal, gable style with a 6 & 12 pitch. There is a 1' overhang all around. The big plus to this structure is that our client decided to have it fully insulated and conceal the insulation with vertically installed reclaimed corral boards painted white.

The 6 light Bacara french doors open to the pool area and are painted a soft green. The front doors also feature retractable Ketu screens in bronze. Above the doors is a green vintage arched vent to help with the heat on those warm summer days. Board and batten reclaimed fence boards finish off the all of the exterior walls and gables. As a nod to the grandkids, who'll be sharing this space, there are two custom pavers set just out front doors.

Vintage windows painted green are on both the left and right walls bring natural light into the space and fresh breezes when open. Casement style hardware allow all of the windows to open out. The right wall windows are unique vintage 10 light windows with square and rectangular lights. The left wall's vintage windows are topped with beautiful diamonds that drop down to large single lights. All of the windows have custom screens built by our craftsmen.

As you walk through to the back of the structure look up and there it is, a loft for the grandkids. The loft is painted green to match the doors and windows. It runs the with of the structure, 10' and is 48" deep. A fun spot to rest after a swim in the pool or a horseback ride. A removable ladder will be added later. Just under the loft are custom barn doors, in the same luscious green as the windows, that open to a small half bath that has a tiled floor and white walls to match the rest of the structure. This bathroom features a vintage beveled glass window that transoms out, once again painted the luscious green that softly contrasts the white reclaimed walls.

This structure is a thing of beauty with all of the green windows, doors and vents contrasting the clean white reclaimed walls on the inside and the board and batten reclaimed fence boards on the outside. All of the gray corral boards that make up the floor add another level of contrast that will be enjoyed by all who use the space.

One thing is for sure, this is a structure that is sure to bring lots of joy to the owners.
